About
I was born in a then small town of Maple Ridge British Columbia, Canada, January 28th 1985. I first picked up a skateboard at age 6 when my sister and I got matching NASH boards for Christmas. My uncle, a hippy nomad was staying with us that following year and showed me how to ride standing up and how to carve around. When he departed from our abode, he left his own freestyle board behind for me to use. It was around that same time my father decided to build me a 3 foot mini ramp (that actually reached vert) in my garage. I played on that ramp for a good few years before I ventured off to pursue other interests, such as the drums and karate. It wasn’t until I was the ripe age of 10, where my passion for skateboarding would return.
My best friend Torey got a board for his birthday that year, and it was from that point forward I decided that skateboarding was my life. I remained in Maple Ridge my whole childhood, skating with Torey through elementary and high school. We both got sponsored by some local shops in our area and eventually I started traveling abroad to some international contests in the U.S., such as The Tampa Am, etc.
Once I graduated high school at the age of 17, I decided to move in with my father in downtown Vancouver. After a short stint working in the movie business, I was able to save enough money to buy a loft beside my fathers place the following year. I would work construction and background performing to pay the mortgage all the while dreaming of the next spot I was going to skate when I got off my 16 hour shift. I came to a pivotal point in my life where my sponsors basically gave me the ultimatum, to either give skateboarding a real shot and move down to California to pursue it 100% or call it a day and move on with my life in Vancouver. After not much thought at all, I sat my parents down and told them the deal, that my heart wasn’t in construction and background performing (clearly evident) and that I wanted to rent out my loft to move to cali to give a real shot of pursuing the dream of professional skateboarding. It took a couple years to make it hofficial and get my working visa, but after 6 months to a year of visiting the US, I finally got my credentials sorted and moved down full time in the spring of 2009. Since then my life has completely changed for the best, and skateboarding has taken over my life. I currently live in North County San Diego in the small beach town of Cardiff with my friend and Team Manager over at Bones wheels. Eat, sleep, skate, just how I pictured it
